I chose this design because one of the gables was so wide due to the original structure and I wanted the hip ridge to be above the gable ridges. Again, think of the plumb cut heights they are different if the roof slopes are different. I am adding a second story addition and I created a roof design with a hip roof that has a 10:12 pitch with 2 reverse gables that have 6:12 pitches.

They will not join in real life that way without a short level section. For instance, one can go for both gabled roofing (varied pitch) as well as. The other tricky issue is where you have two pieces of sloped fascia coming together at the corner. However, it is entirely possible for a structure to have more than one roofing style.

Joining two roofs with different pitches how to#
Or at least I haven't figured out how to do that yet. Another way to explain this is that in a plan view, the left and right edges of the dormer have to have a short length where they are parallel to each other you can't have a dormer that is two triangles in plan. and the slope angles are still the same, then. When the angle of the walls is less or more than 45 deg. This can be very short, just an inch or two. When two roof surfaces sit on two walls that are at right angles to each other, and they are both sloping at the same angle they join at a regular hip of valley, and show up in a plan view as being 45 deg.

Ive tried all sorts of combinations to join and they dont agree. I found that a dormer roof will not join to a main roof if there is not at least a short section of the side dormer fascia that is level. Both roofs are made by extrusion in order to create the seperate pitches. Am on a job at the minute with as per title different pitch roofs connecting and vaulted ceiling. You need to think carefully about which roof will be dominant and how the fascia of each will intersect and terminate. Discussion in Carpenters Talk started by jimoz. In this case you have two roofs with different slopes with plumb (vertical) cut fascia and that means that each plumb cut has a different height and therefore will not join cleanly to each other. When you try to create "unbuildable" configurations, it makes you stop and think about how it would really be created by the carpenters. This is one thing I really like about Revit.
